High quality cameras can last several years, especially if you store them properly. Keep reading for some tips for keeping your photography gear in pristine condition.

1. Invest in a camera bag.

If you’re bringing your camera on an adventure, you should invest in a shoulder bag or backpack. This will keep your gear safe and sound. Make sure the bag is waterproof and has zippered enclosures. You might even want to look for rubber feet, which will help your bag remain in place and prevent it from sliding around. If you plan to do a lot of outside shooting in the elements, consider investing in a rain cover for your camera or a watertight case.

2. Display your gear effectively.
If you enjoy displaying your camera gear at home, you have several options. First, open shelving can make for a beautiful display. Just make sure the area is dry and free from curious pets or rambunctious toddlers. Your second option is a cart on wheels. This will enable you to quickly and easily move your gear from one area of the house to another. You can also easily roll the cart into a closet, if you need to hide it.

3. Keep organized.
One of the best ways to store your camera equipment is to stay organized. If you plan to store your gear for a long time, clean it first. Wipe down all your accessories, too. Test out old cameras and lenses every now and then, so they don’t freeze up and stop working over time. If you stay organized, your items are much less likely to end up damaged. In addition, keep track of cables and other small parts, just in case anything goes missing.

4. Be wary of temperature fluctuations.
Humid conditions are hazardous to most cameras and electronics. Don’t leave your gear sitting out in the hot sun without protection. Don’t bring your camera anywhere with condensation, as this can create permanent damage to your camera.
