Whether you run a small business or simply handle the documents for your house and family, it’s likely that you’ve accumulated a lot of paper over the years. Many of the documents are probably important, such as taxes, but you probably don’t need all of the documents you’ve saved. Switching to digital storage will save space and time and minimize your carbon footprint. Here are some tips for converting your paper storage to digital.

1. Get rid of receipts.
Instead of keeping every single receipt in your home, you can use various apps to take pictures of your receipts and store them in the cloud. This is a great storage option that will keep your life more organized.

2. Trash paper statements.
We all have bills, but it’s no longer necessary to have hard copies mailed to you. Most utility and bill companies have a paperless billing option. You can also set up automatic payments so you don’t risk forgetting to pay your bills on time.

3. Invest in a scanner.
There’s no need to worry about going digital with confidential information, such as tax documents. Most companies will accept documents electronically. This is where a scanner comes in handy. Simply scan paper documents that you want to keep on file, and throw away the paper copy afterwards.

4. Think about using Google Documents.
If you’re looking for a location to store all of your documents online, consider Google Docs. It’s free, easy to access, and will make your life a lot simpler.
