It’s often hard to part with mementos we’ve purchased in foreign places, especially when fond memories are attached to them. Unfortunately, souvenirs often become unnecessary clutter. How can we prevent this from happening? Here are some quick tips. 

Scan Tickets & Brochures
If you have a large collection of train tickets, brochures, receipts, and more, consider scanning them onto your computer and throwing away the physical mementos. This way, you can create a digital collection of your memories and store them on a hard drive, where you can easily access them whenever you want. 

Display Your Favorite Souvenirs
If you have some precious items that you know you won’t ever part with, make sure they’re on display in your home. In order to prevent dust and decay, consider storing them in a glass display cabinet, where they’ll be safe and protected. These items also turn into great conversation starters. 

Use Functional Souvenirs
Many seasoned travelers buy items that are functional while traveling, instead of small trinkets they’ll never use. For instance, teaspoons, chopsticks, pens, cutting boards, framed artwork, blankets, and clothing are a few great examples. If you have useful, functional mementos, use them! Don’t just save them for “special days. 

Make a Photo Gallery Wall

If you have an abundance of travel photos, use them to create a gallery wall! Print out a bunch and arrange them in a way that feels visually appealing to you. This is a great way to personalize your living room or home office. 

Store Items In a Storage Unit

Sometimes, souvenirs add up over time and reach a point that isn’t really sustainable. If that’s your situation, consider renting a storage unit. Protect your memorable and valuable items and free up space in your home. It’s a win-win situation for all.
