Moving is often chaotic and exhausting. Add to that the stress of potentially breaking fragile items, and you’re in for a real rollercoaster. Luckily, these accidents are preventable with proper preparation.
Packing up antiques, crystal, and glass is a slow process, but it’s worth it to safely transport your items to your new home. Give yourself plenty of time to pack everything up safely. You’ll need packing tape, packing paper, and scissors. Avoid using blankets and newspaper wrapping, if you can.
1. Dishes
Dishware should be wrapped securely in bubble wrap. Add cardboard dividers in between the plates. Arrange them carefully in a smaller box. Make sure the box isn’t too heavy to carry.
2. Glasses
Pack each individual glass with wrapping paper. Then place them inside a smaller box or storage bin lined with packing paper at the bottom. Place crumpled paper all around the glasses for extra protection. Put heavy pieces on the bottom and lighter pieces on top.
3. Picture frames
Picture frames should be wrapped individually with bubble wrap and placed in a smaller box. Add crumpled paper between each frame to prevent them from shifting around.
4. Lampshades
Lampshades should be wrapped with packing paper. The base should be separated and put in a different box. Fill empty space with bubble wrap.
5. Specialty items
Big, fragile items should be packed carefully so they don’t shift around during transit. If you can, disassemble components that can be taken apart, wrap each piece in bubble wrap, and secure everything with tape. Like we stated previously, fill empty spaces with crumpled paper. Write “FRAGILE” on your box when you’re done.
