Oh no! It’s that time again. You have to pack up your entire life and fit it into several boxes. While moving into a new home is very exciting, it’s also a lot of work and comes with a variety of potential issues. Here we have five tips on how to fix some common problems we face while moving. Hopefully your next move is filled with more joy than frustration!
Lost Items
Picture this: You move into a new place and realize you’ve lost an item. After looking in the most obvious places, you go and purchase another one. A week later, you’re unpacking an unrelated box, and that very item is found. Annoying, right? Well, we have a tip to combat this. Make extensive lists, or even a spreadsheet while packing up. This allows you to keep track of where things are, and also serves as a great way to keep stock of your belongings.
Reviews And Ratings Matter
When it comes to choosing movers and packers, it’s important to choose options that have been recommended to you by someone trustworthy, or ones that have positive reviews and ratings online. This is something we often overlook, thinking they'll all be the same. However, inexperienced and unprofessional movers can often cost you more money in the long run.
Moving Traffic
This one is often unavoidable, but it can be managed. Using maps on your phone to check when there is the least traffic on the road is a good solution. Don’t try to move during rush hour, for example. Another workaround is choosing a day where there is not a lot of footfall in elevators, such as weekday afternoons. Another option is to take several smaller trips to and from your storage unit and bring over your items in batches. This allows you to spread out the workload so you can make trips when there’s little traffic.
Bad Weather: This one can be the most hectic. It is very important to check the weather in advance. In addition, checking for bad weather the night before you have to move ensures you won’t be caught in a mess. Worst case scenario, you can reschedule your moving to a brighter day.
Disorganization: If you struggle with organizing your things while packing up, a good tip is to pack things based on rooms you use them in, and in order of importance and frequency of use. This means that you can open up certain boxes with essentials first and then work your way through the rest.
