Cleaning your storage unit isn’t exactly fun, but it’s something you need to do in order to stay organized. If you use your storage unit to run your business, it’s even more important for your storage unit to remain neat and orderly. There are three main components of cleaning your storage unit: Decluttering, cleaning, and maintenance.
Decluttering
Sort through your storage unit items and figure out what you want to keep and what you want to throw out. If you haven’t used something in more than six months, it’s probably safe to either throw away or donate. If you feel pulled to keep sentimental items, place them in a box and keep them in storage.
Cleaning
If you want to thoroughly clean your storage unit, you’ll have to take everything out first. Once you’ve swept, mopped, and dusted, place all of your items back inside the storage unit. Just make sure you dust them first, so they don’t carry dust back inside. Cleaning will preserve your belongings and help them last longer. This is especially important for jewelry, artwork, and instruments.
Maintenance
There are some maintenance tasks you should do on a regular basis to keep your storage unit in good shape. If you have a desk inside, make sure it’s organized and free from clutter. Dust and sweet on a regular basis so dirt and dust doesn’t accumulate on your belongings. In addition, disinfect door handles and light switches to prevent the spread of germs.
