Moving can be very draining. If you slip up and drop something fragile, you could easily break a cherished antique or a box of wine glasses. However, you can prevent this type of accident with the right tools and preparation.
When you start packing up breakables, make sure to give yourself plenty of time. Don’t try to rush the process right before you move. Prepare with plastic storage bins, small boxes, bubble wrap, and packing peanuts. You should also have packing tape, scissors, and packing paper.
1. Fragile Glasses
Wrap each individual glass in packing paper. Then, place them inside a small box with packing paper or packing peanuts at the bottom. Crumple up packing paper and place around and inside the glasses. Put heavier pieces on the bottom and lighter pieces up top.
2. Dishes
Dishes and plates should be wrapped in bubble wrap and taped thoroughly. Add dividers between the plates...you can even use paper plates for this step! Don’t overfill the box, or it will be too heavy to comfortably carry.
3. Picture Frames
Frames should be individually wrapped with packing paper or bubble wrap and stacked in a small box. Add crumpled paper between each frame.
4. Lampshades
Lampshades are one of those awkwardly-shaped yet delicate items that have to be packed strategically. Remove the base, place in a larger box, and wrap the lampshade with packing paper. Place in a box, and fill the remaining space with bubble wrap.
Last but not least, remember to mark all of these boxes with the word, FRAGILE! This way, extra care will be taken while handling these items.
