Electronics are often found in storage. Old TVs, computer monitors, car stereos, old VCR systems, and more are typically stashed in dark corners, gathering dust. If you can’t bear to part with an electronic, storage is a great way to keep it safe while you figure out what to do with it. However, long-term storage requires proper preparation. Here are three packing tips that will ensure your electronics remain in good condition after you store them.
1. Pack items in their original box.
If you haven’t developed the habit of keeping original electronic boxes, now is the time to start. If you have them in the back of a close somewhere, use them for long-term storage. These boxes were designed to protect your electronics during transport and are the ultimate source of protection you can give them in a storage unit.
2. Make sure the environment is safe.
Store your electronics off the floor, in case of flooding or some other natural disaster. Place a plastic sheet underneath them, and another one loosely over them. This will keep moisture and mold away.
