Organize Your Home To Reduce Stress
A messy home has been shown to increase anxiety, hinder healthy sleep, and damage your ability to focus. Whether you are in the middle of a move or just looking to declutter your home, organizing your belongings is a wonderful way to reduce stress. Here are some of our tips for organizing your home that we believe will aid in your process.
Start Small
Sometimes the hardest part of any task is just getting started. When organizing your home, you may feel overwhelmed by the large task at hand. Rather than thinking about the project in terms of your entire home, start small. You could start by cleaning out the closet in your guest room or throwing away the junk mail on that table by your front door. Complete one section at a time and don’t worry too much about the big picture.
Donate or sell unwanted items
Once you’ve completed the section you’re working on, set aside any items you’d like to donate or sell. Before you drop those items in the trash or at the thrift store, consider listing them on Craigslist or the app Offerup to make some extra cash! See if your city has a used book store’ you’d be surprised at how much money you can make from unwanted books, dvd’s, and board games. You can take the money you make and put it toward a self-care treatment, like a massage or facial to reduce your stress even further.
Consider Self-Storage
For the items you aren’t getting rid of, but don’t necessarily use every day, consider renting a self-storage unit! Moving those extra items out of your home is a wonderful way to clear space in your home and reduce stress, but still have access when needed.
It’s always a good time to organize your home to reduce stress. Clearing away unwanted clutter can feel like a breath of fresh air and renew your love for your home. Remember that small steps lead to big changes and if you start the habit of decluttering frequently, you will create a home environment filled with peace and comfort.
